Centara Grand Lagoon Maldives sits at one end of a shared lagoon in North Malé Atoll, forming half of The Atollia by Centara alongside its livelier sister island, Centara Mirage Lagoon. This is the calmer, more grown-up side: 142 villas and residences from 78 to 290 sqm, most with a private pool, and overwater villas with steps straight into the lagoon. What makes it unusual is that you don't have to choose — guests here have access to both islands, so a couple can have a silent overwater sunset and the family two villas down can still spend the afternoon on the water slides. It opened in April 2025, so everything is genuinely new, and it's a 40-minute speedboat from the airport rather than a seaplane.

Centara Grand Lagoon and Centara Mirage Lagoon share a lagoon and operate together as The Atollia by Centara. You stay on the quieter, more grown-up island and still have the run of the other one — its restaurants, its Kids' Club, its waterpark. Most Maldivian resorts give you one island and one mood for the whole trip; this gives you a choice each morning.
142 villas and residences spanning 78 to 290 sqm, on the beach and over the water, with a private pool in almost every category. A couple takes a one-bedroom overwater pool villa; a family of six takes a three-bedroom residence with its own pool a short walk away. Nobody has to compromise on the room to travel together.
SPA Cenvaree Retreat is Centara's own Thai wellness brand rather than a bought-in operator, and it shows in the treatment list — herbal compresses, traditional Thai massage and Thai-Ayurvedic therapies alongside the usual couples' rituals. Your package includes a 30-minute treatment here.
The resort opened in April 2025. Villas, restaurants, spa and pools are all first-generation — no tired furniture, no renovation scaffolding on the beach you didn't know about when you booked. The trade-off is an honest one: a new island means a young house reef, which we cover in the FAQs below.
The Grand Two-Bedroom Overwater Pool Villa with Slide does exactly what it says — a slide off the deck straight into the lagoon. There are only two of these on the island, so they go early, but they're the sort of thing children remember about a holiday for years afterwards. The main restaurant, and where your included breakfast and dinner are served. Cooking happens in front of you rather than under heat lamps — a live tandoor, teppan grills and Asian counters alongside the buffet, which is why Indian dishes turn up here daily rather than as a once-a-week theme night.
A Mediterranean beach club built around sustainably sourced seafood, with private cabanas on the sand and live music in the evenings. The most social dinner on the island — closer to a long lunch that runs into the night than a hushed fine-dining room.
An overwater champagne and cocktail bar on the western edge, with catamaran-net seating suspended over the lagoon. This is where your included sunset cocktail is best spent, and it's also the stretch of water where the snorkeling is liveliest.
The quiet, grown-up room — a raw bar, tapas, curated wines, private breakfast service and afternoon tea. Access depends on your villa category and rate; tell us which villa you're considering and we'll confirm whether it's included or chargeable for you.
A swim-up bar in the main pool serving cocktails and light bites, with cabanas for anyone who'd rather stay dry. The place you end up between lunch and the spa without having planned to.
Plus three more across the lagoon — on the Atollia Plan. Book the Atollia Plan and your dining opens up to Centara Mirage Lagoon as well: Suan Bua (Thai), Acqua (Italian) and The Sailhouse (international buffet). Without it, you dine on this island only. Activities & Wellness
Canoes, paddleboards and snorkeling gear are included in your package. The water sports centre also rents jet skis, Seabobs and jetcars, and the dive centre runs PADI courses and guided dives — including Discover Scuba if you've never breathed underwater before. Snorkeling excursions head out to established reefs nearby, which is worth doing here given how young the house reef still is.
Sunset dolphin cruises, sunset fishing trips on a traditional dhoni, and sandbank picnics. Your package already includes one fishing trip — most guests book the dolphin cruise as the second outing rather than a third snorkeling run.
Centara's own Thai wellness brand rather than a franchised operator — traditional Thai massage, herbal compress treatments and Thai-Ayurvedic therapies, plus couples' rooms and the usual aromatherapy and facial menu. Your package includes a 30-minute treatment; longer rituals and couples' packages are bookable on arrival.
All of this sits on the sister island, Centara Mirage Lagoon, and Atollia guests have access to it: a water complex with slides, a lazy river and a children's pool, a supervised Kids' Club, an E-Zone games room aimed at teenagers, and Candy Spa for younger children. It's the reason a family and a honeymooning couple can share this booking without either one compromising.
Yoga and fitness sessions, cooking demonstrations drawing on the resort's Thai kitchen, and live music at Bluefin in the evenings. Nothing here is a nightclub — the loud version of the holiday is a short boat ride away by design.
Getting There
Speedboat Transfer
About 40 minutes from Malé International Airport

A Centara representative meets you inside the arrivals hall and walks you to the jetty — roughly 40 minutes across North Malé Atoll from there, with the exact time depending on the sea that day. Return transfers are included in your package.

Transfers run around the clock, so your arrival time doesn't dictate your first night — whatever time you land, you go straight to the island.

Honest answer: the resort opened in April 2025, so the house reef is still young compared with older Maldivian islands. There is genuine marine life in the lagoon — reef fish, stingrays and nurse sharks — and the best snorkeling is around the jetties and the Sunset Social end of the island. For a fuller reef, the resort runs snorkeling excursions to established sites nearby.
