Angsana Velavaru sits on Velavaru — “Turtle Island” in Dhivehi — in South Nilandhe (Dhaalu) Atoll, a 40-minute seaplane flight from Malé. The resort is laid out in two parts: 79 villas line the beach of the main island, while 34 two-storey InOcean Pool Villas stand on stilts about a kilometre away, linked to the island by an hourly boat. Each InOcean villa has an infinity pool over the coral reef and a rooftop pavilion, and on the beach the villas run from 88 sqm up to a 473 sqm three-bedroom pool villa. Kaani, Funa and Azzurro restaurants, Kuredhi Pool Bar, a PADI Gold Palm 5-Star dive centre, a Marine Lab and the Rangers' Club for children make up the rest of the resort.

The 34 InOcean Villas were the Maldives' first standalone cluster of water villas, built on stilts about a kilometre from the main island. Each is a two-storey villa with an infinity pool over the coral reef, an overwater hammock and a rooftop pavilion. The resort was named Maldives' Leading Water Villa Resort at the World Travel Awards and Best Water Villa Resort at the TTM Awards 2025.
The main island holds the 79 beachfront villas, Kaani, Kuredhi Pool Bar and the Rangers' Club, while the InOcean Villas have their own restaurant and bar, Azzurro. A resort boat runs between the two every hour from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM, and the crossing takes about 5 minutes.
Instructors at the island's PADI Gold Palm 5-Star Dive Centre run courses for beginners and certified divers, with more than 30 dive sites nearby. Divers in this part of South Nilandhe Atoll meet black-tip reef sharks, eagle rays, turtles and whale sharks.
Velavaru means Turtle Island in Dhivehi, and the resort's Marine Lab works to protect the surrounding coral reefs through research. Guests can join its turtle and coral projects, or head out on snorkel trips with the marine team to learn how the reef works.
InOcean Villa guests can order a floating breakfast in their own pool or a private dinner on the villa rooftop. On the main island, the kitchen sets up candlelit beach dinners of flame-grilled seafood and steaks, and V-Deck Dining serves sunset drinks and dinner on a platform floating in the lagoon.

An 88 sqm thatched villa a few steps from the sand, with a private terrace for meals outdoors and loungers looking out to the ocean. It's the main island's starting category, without a private pool, and sits on the same island as Kaani, Kuredhi Pool Bar and the Rangers' Club.

A 175 sqm two-storey villa on stilts in the InOcean cluster, about a kilometre from the main island. The king bedroom opens onto a terrace with a 7-metre infinity pool over the coral reef, sunbeds and an overwater hammock. Upstairs, the rooftop pavilion doubles as a sala for in-villa spa treatments; sleeps up to 3.

The main all-day restaurant, set by the beach, mixing Maldivian and international cooking. Breakfast is served here every morning, and dinners run as nightly themed buffets with live cooking stations.
The resort's signature Pan-Asian restaurant and bar, built over the water and open for lunch and dinner. It's the place for sunset cocktails and the setting for private cooking classes; Funa is included on the All-Inclusive Premium plan and charged separately on other plans.
An à la carte restaurant and bar over the water at the InOcean Villas, serving Mediterranean dishes from breakfast (7:30 to 10:30 AM) through dinner. It's for InOcean Villa guests, and for land-villa guests on All-Inclusive Premium; dress is smart casual and booking ahead is recommended.
The bar beside the main island's pool, with craft cocktails and an all-day à la carte menu of pizza, pasta and burgers. Drinks are served from 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM, and evenings bring live entertainment.
Activities & Wellness
The PADI Gold Palm 5-Star Dive Centre runs courses for beginners and certified divers across more than 30 dive sites nearby. The house reef can't be reached by swimming from the main island, so a guided snorkel trip goes out by boat every day from 11:00 AM to 12:15 PM; the InOcean Villas sit on the reef itself, with access from the villa deck.
Windsurfing, catamaran sailing, wakeboarding, mono-skiing, canoeing and glass-bottom kayaking run from the island's water sports centre. Whale shark excursions, stingray feeding and night fishing trips can also be booked.
The kids' club has indoor and outdoor space, with treasure hunts, beach games, T-shirt painting and sandcastle building. Babysitting can be arranged for parents who want an evening out.
The Marine Lab studies and protects the reefs around Velavaru. Guests can take part in its turtle and coral projects and join educational snorkel trips led by the marine team.
Bodu Beru drumming performances on the island, guided excursions to nearby local islands, and private cooking classes at Funa.
Asian-inspired massages and aromatherapy, given in open-air spa pavilions or air-conditioned treatment rooms. InOcean Villa rooftop pavilions can also be set up for treatments in your villa, and there's a gym on the main island.
Getting There
Seaplane Transfer
40 minutes from Velana International Airport, then 5 minutes by speedboat

A resort representative meets you at Velana International Airport and takes you to the seaplane check-in counters. The flight covers about 142 km to South Nilandhe Atoll, and a short speedboat ride takes you on to the main island or straight to the InOcean Villas. Seaplanes fly in daylight only, so your flight time is set around your international arrival and confirmed the night before.

There's no minimum age — children of all ages are welcome. The Rangers' Club runs supervised activities for kids, and babysitting can be arranged.

It depends on your meal plan and villa. On half board, breakfast is at Kaani and dinner at Kaani or Kuredhi Pool Bar; InOcean Villa guests can also use Azzurro for both. Funa, the Pan-Asian restaurant, is included on the resort's All-Inclusive Premium plan and charged separately on other plans.
There's no separate Indian restaurant. Kaani, the main restaurant, runs international buffets with live cooking stations, and the resort can cater for special dietary needs on request. Tell us your dietary needs at booking and we'll pass them to the resort.
You can't swim to the house reef from the main island, so the resort runs a guided snorkel trip there by boat every day. The InOcean Villas are built on the reef itself, so guests staying there can get into the water from their own deck.
