The Resort at a Glance
The Maldives' First Design Hotel Interiors by LAGO of Italy Lagoon Suites With a Slide 50+ Lhaviyani Dive Sites

The Maldives' first design hotel, fitted out end to end by an Italian furniture house.

Cocoon Maldives opened in December 2016 on Ookolhufinolhu, an island in Lhaviyani Atoll 30 minutes from Malé by seaplane, as the first resort in the country built as a design hotel. All 150 villas, the 3 restaurants and the 2 bars were fitted out by LAGO, the Italian furniture brand, with floating beds, wildwood tables and full-height windows onto the beach or lagoon. Villas run from 50 m² Beach Villas to overwater Lagoon Suites with a private pool or a slide straight into the water, up to the 300 m² two-bedroom Cocoon Suite. Children are welcome, with a Kids Club for ages 3 to 12, and the atoll has more than 50 dive sites within reach, including the Shipyard wrecks.

Best For

Couples and honeymooners who want an all-inclusive island with Italian-designed villas and a slide or private pool over the lagoon, divers heading for Lhaviyani's 50-plus sites, and families who want a Kids Club and connecting Family Beach Villas.

Cocoon opened in December 2016 as the first design hotel in the Maldives, with every villa, restaurant and bar fitted out by LAGO, the Italian furniture brand. In the villas that means beds that seem to float above the floor, wildwood tables and wide windows onto the beach or lagoon — a clean, modern look in place of traditional thatch and teak.
The island's 10 Lagoon Suites with Slide are 70 m² overwater suites with a slide running from the deck straight down into the lagoon. Apart from the slide they match the Lagoon Suites, with a jacuzzi and LAGO interiors, and they're the room type Cocoon is known for.
Lhaviyani has more than 50 dive sites within reach of the island's dive centre. They include the Shipyard, where two wrecks lie close together, and Kuredu Express, a channel dive known for grey reef sharks.
Children are welcome on Cocoon. The Kids Club runs supervised activities for ages 3 to 12, there's a children's pool, and the 100 m² Family Beach Villas join two Beach Villas through the terrace, so parents and children each have a room of their own a few steps from the sand.
Villa Types
Beach Villa at Cocoon Maldives with terrace opening onto the sand

Beach Villa

A 50 m² villa on the beach, with the terrace opening straight onto the sand and a semi-open bathroom with an outdoor shower. Inside are a LAGO floating bed, a wildwood table and a full-height window towards the sea.

Overwater Lagoon Villa at Cocoon Maldives with steps into the lagoon

Lagoon Villa

A 65 m² overwater villa with steps from the deck straight down into the lagoon and the water in view from the bed. It has the same LAGO interiors as the beach villas; there's no private pool in this category.

Lagoon Suite with Pool at Cocoon Maldives, private pool on the overwater deck

Lagoon Suite with Pool

At 90 m², the largest overwater suite on the island, with a private pool on the deck above the lagoon and butler service. More space inside and out than the Lagoon Villa, with the same LAGO interiors.

Lagoon Suite with Slide at Cocoon Maldives seen from the lagoon

Lagoon Suite with Slide

A 70 m² overwater suite with a slide that runs from the deck straight into the lagoon, plus a jacuzzi. There are 10 of them, and apart from the slide they match the Lagoon Suites.

Also Available
Beach Suite — 70 m² on the beach and sized for two, with a larger bedroom and bathroom than the Beach Villa and direct access to the sand.
Beach Suite with Pool — 70 m² on the beach, with a private plunge pool on the terrace overlooking the sand and butler service.
Family Beach Villa — two Beach Villas joined through the terrace, giving 100 m² on the beach with two separate rooms, so children sleep next door rather than in the same room.
Lagoon Suite — 70 m² over the lagoon with a jacuzzi and steps into the water, the same layout as the Lagoon Suite with Slide without the slide.
Cocoon Suite — the 300 m² presidential suite on the beach, with two bedrooms, a living room, a private plunge pool and outdoor dining areas facing the lagoon.

The main restaurant, on the beach beside the pool, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner as themed buffets with live cooking stations. It's where most meals on the all-inclusive plan are taken, and the buffet includes vegetarian dishes.
Built out over the lagoon and open for lunch and dinner from an à la carte menu of international dishes. In the evening it's set up for candlelit dinners for two above the water.
Japanese cuisine served in a garden setting that looks out to the ocean. It's the island's third restaurant, a change of pace from the buffet for an evening of your stay.
The bar beside the main pool, pouring Maldivian cocktails and the house list, with pizza on the menu. All-inclusive drinks are served here until midnight.
The beach bar, set up for sunset drinks on the sand. A laid-back alternative to the pool bar as the day winds down.
Activities & Wellness
The island's dive centre runs boat trips to more than 50 sites across Lhaviyani Atoll, including the Shipyard, where two wrecks lie close together, and Kuredu Express, a channel dive known for grey reef sharks. Diving is at extra cost.
The coral reef sits a short boat ride from the island, and the resort runs snorkeling trips out to it twice a day. Canoes and paddleboards are available for the lagoon, and parasailing and other motorized water sports run at extra cost.
Free for children aged 3 to 12, with a programme of supervised activities run by the club's staff. There's also a children's pool, and babysitting is available at extra cost.
Yoga sessions on the beach and fitness classes run through the week, and there's a fitness centre on the island.
Four treatment rooms, including couples' rooms, offering massages, hot stone treatments, body wraps, reflexology and facials, with a steam room alongside. The spa is open daily, and with four rooms it's worth booking treatments early in your stay.
Getting There
Seaplane Transfer
30 minutes from Malé International Airport

Cocoon is a 30-minute seaplane flight north from the Trans Maldivian Airways terminal beside Velana International Airport, with atolls, sandbanks and reefs below you the whole way. Seaplanes only fly in daylight, so if your international flight lands in Malé after the last seaplane of the day, you'll spend a night near the airport and fly across the next morning.
