The Resort at a Glance
360° House Reef Three Underwater Reef Caves Treetop Spa Villas Overwater Thai at Benjarong

The house reef doesn't sit off one beach. It circles the whole island.

Dusit Thani Maldives sits on Mudhdhoo, a 16-hectare island in Baa Atoll, the Maldives' first UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, 35 minutes by seaplane from Malé. A living house reef runs a full 360 degrees around the island, with three underwater caves along it, so you can snorkel from whichever beach is nearest. The 94 villas and residences pair Thai furnishings with Maldivian design, each with butler service, and range from 122 m² Beach Villas to a three-bedroom residence of 690 m². Benjarong, the signature overwater restaurant, serves Thai food among antique Thai pieces, and six of the eight treatment villas at Devarana Wellness are raised among the coconut palms.

Best For

Snorkelers and divers who want reef on every side of the island, couples drawn to Thai cooking and a spa in the treetops, and families who need a kids club and two- or three-bedroom villas with a private pool.

Mudhdhoo's living house reef runs a full 360 degrees around the island, so you walk in from whichever beach is closest instead of booking a boat, and the Waterfront and Overwater Pool Villas have direct reef access from the deck. Turtles and reef sharks are regular sightings, and three underwater caves sit along the reef for divers to explore with the Ocean Dive Centre.
Baa Atoll became the Maldives' first UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 2011, and Hanifaru Bay, a protected bay where manta rays gather to feed roughly between May and November, is a short speedboat ride from the island. Access to the bay is snorkel-only and controlled, and sightings depend on the plankton on the day.
Benjarong is the resort's signature overwater restaurant, serving Thai food in a room where antique Thai pieces are built into modern interiors. The same thread runs through the villas, which pair Thai furnishings with Maldivian architecture.
Devarana Wellness has eight treatment villas, and six of them are raised up among the coconut palms rather than sitting at ground level or over the water. Treatments draw on Thai healing traditions alongside contemporary techniques.
The Kids Club has indoor and outdoor play areas, and the two- and three-bedroom villas and residences, from 262 m² up to 690 m², each come with a private pool. The main infinity pool beside Sand Bar, which the resort lists among the largest in the Maldives, gives children and adults plenty of room.
