Le Méridien Maldives Resort & Spa sits on Thilamaafushi, a nine-hectare natural island in a southeastern pocket of Lhaviyani Atoll, about 35 minutes north of Malé by seaplane. Its 134 villas split into 97 over the water and 37 on the beach, all in a mid-century design of floor-to-ceiling glass, muted colours and clean lines. The house reef wraps much of the island, with turtles feeding close to shore. Around it you'll find an overwater spa, a padel court, a family pool with a separate kids' pool, the adults-only La Vie pool and bar, and a hydroponic greenhouse that supplies the resort's kitchens.

Stargazing
The reef wraps much of Thilamaafushi, with entry straight from the beach and from the overwater villa steps. Green and hawksbill turtles feed along it, and snorkelers also report eagle rays and blacktip reef sharks. At the Marine Hub you can join the coral restoration programme or a marine biology talk on the atoll's turtles and manta rays.
Bodu Finolhu, "Big Island" in Dhivehi, is a small island of tropical forest and white sand set aside for resort guests to explore. It's the setting for the resort's island picnics, and families visit it on the Kids Hub's private island explorations.
Two pools, two moods. La Vie is adults-only, with its own bar and an ocean view made for sunset, while the Velaa pool slopes in gently like a lagoon and has a separate kids' pool beside the grill.
The Greenhouse is one of the largest hydroponic farms in the Maldives, and the chefs build the menus around what it grows. Book the Harvest Table dinner, or join Family Foraging: a greenhouse tour, a cooking class and lunch at The Greenhouse.
A resident astronomer leads stargazing sessions and celestial dinners, and kids can sleep out on the island at the Kids Night Camping. By day, the resident artist runs Sip & Paint classes in the island's art space.

Activities & Wellness
Snorkel the house reef straight from the beach or the overwater villa steps, with turtles regularly close to shore. Lhaviyani has more than 50 dive sites, most within reach of the resort, with coral caves, thilas and manta rays; Sub Oceanic Maldives runs house reef dives, boat dives and Discover Scuba sessions at extra cost, and SSI films its training videos here.
The Sub Oceanic centre runs jet ski rides, flyboarding, wakeboarding, waterskiing, banana boat and fun-tube rides. For something quieter there's windsurfing, catamaran sailing, stand-up paddleboarding and glass-bottom canoes on the lagoon.
Dolphin cruises, sunset fishing, big-game fishing and speedboat excursions leave from the island, along with trips to Naifaru, the atoll's busiest local island and picnics on Bodu Finolhu, the resort's private island.
The Marine Hub runs coral restoration, marine biology talks, mangrove conservation walks, coconut husking and day and night nature trails. Elsewhere there's a padel court with equipment provided, stargazing with the resident astronomer, Sip & Paint with the resident artist and greenhouse tours.
The Le Méridien Family Kids Hub runs folklore storytelling, art classes and marine conservation sessions, plus Kids Night Camping under the stars. Family expeditions cover nature trails, coral restoration, traditional fishing, dolphin sightings and private island explorations, and Family Foraging ends with a cooking class at The Greenhouse.
Explore Spa sits over the lagoon and takes its cues from the European bathhouse, with treatment rooms that have glass floor panels to the water below; the signature is a Thai herbal compress ritual using 11 herbs. The Waves Lifestyle Hub has an ocean-facing fitness studio and a yoga platform up in the banyan trees, with yoga, boot camp and Run+Burn sessions.
Getting There
Seaplane Transfer
About 35 minutes from Malé International Airport

Thilamaafushi is about 130 km north of Malé, in Lhaviyani Atoll. After landing, you transfer to the seaplane terminal at Velana International Airport for a 35-minute flight north over the atolls, with reefs and sandbanks below for most of the way. Seaplanes only fly in daylight, so if your international flight arrives in the evening, plan a night in Malé before flying on.
