Pasta Point Surf Break Snorkel From the Beach Kids' Playground & Pool Indian Restaurant On Island

A lively island with a famous left-hand wave off one end and a house reef just off the beach.

Cinnamon Dhonveli Maldives sits on Kanuhuraa island in North Malé Atoll, 20–25 minutes by speedboat from the airport. Around 150 rooms are spread across seven categories, from Duplex Garden Bungalows in the coconut grove and Beach Bungalows on the sand to Water Bungalows and Over Water Suites on the lagoon. Off the tip of the island is Pasta Point, a well-known left-hand surf break that Raalhu Bar looks straight onto. The house reef is close enough to snorkel from the main bay, and the island has four restaurants, including Dalchini for Indian food, three bars, Chavana Spa by Mandara, diving at around 25 nearby sites and the Lil' Pirates Bay playground for children.

Best For

Couples, families and first-time visitors who want a sociable island with real dining choice, a reef they can snorkel from the beach and a short speedboat transfer — and surfers who want Pasta Point on their doorstep.

Couples, families and groups of friends can book side by side in different categories, and the island is big enough that it never feels crowded around one pool.
The reef sits a few metres from shore, and guests regularly report reef sharks, rays and shoals of reef fish while snorkeling straight from the beach. Guided turtle-snorkeling trips run from the island for anyone who wants to head further out.
A left-hand reef break with 4–8 ft swells in peak season, a couple of minutes' walk from the main bay. Raalhu Bar's terrace looks straight onto it, so non-surfers get a front-row seat, and surfing it is arranged through the resort's surf partner, Atoll Travels.
Buffets at Koimala, Indian à la carte at Dalchini overlooking Pasta Point, Tex-Mex for a change of pace and Rehendhi for suite guests. Sundowners at Raiyvilla Bar, cold drinks on the sand at the Beach Bar and the surf view from Raalhu Bar.
Lil' Pirates Bay is a pirate-themed playground set where parents can keep an eye on it, and there's a children's pool beside the main pool. Duplex Garden and Beach Bungalows sleep two adults and two children, and the Superior Rooms take up to four guests.

Raiyvilla Bar
The main restaurant for Superior Room, Duplex Garden Bungalow and Beach Bungalow guests, named in tribute to a revered Maldivian monarch. Buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner with international dishes, live action stations, a salad bar and a desserts counter, served indoors and on the beach.
Named after the Hindi word for cinnamon, with an à la carte menu that covers regional Indian kitchens, grills, coastal dishes and tandoori favourites. It overlooks the waves at Pasta Point and opens for lunch from 12 noon to 3 PM and dinner from 7 to 10 PM; in the mornings it serves the breakfast buffet for Water Bungalow guests.
Reserved for guests in the Over Water Suites and the Beach Suites with Pool, with its own bar attached. A smaller, quieter room than the main buffets, serving international dishes and seafood, with high tea at the bar in the late afternoon.
The island's speciality restaurant for Tex-Mex cooking, and the casual choice for an evening away from the buffets. Opening nights and reservations are handled at the resort, so book a table soon after you arrive.
Raalhu means "waves" in Dhivehi, and the bar's terrace looks straight onto Pasta Point. Cocktails and cold drinks while the sets roll in — the easiest way to watch the surf without getting wet.
The island's sunset bar, set up for sundowners as the sky turns from daylight to dusk. Cocktails and drinks before dinner, and a quieter spot for couples in the evening.
Just outside the Beach Bungalows, serving cold drinks, juices and cocktails through the day. The easy stop between a swim on the house reef and lunch.
Activities & Wellness
Snorkel straight from the main bay, where guests report reef sharks, rays and plenty of reef fish a few metres from shore. For divers, the island sits within reach of around 25 well-known dive sites in North Malé Atoll, and guided turtle-snorkeling trips head out to look for turtles.
A left-hand reef break off the tip of the island, with 4–8 ft swells in peak season. All surf bookings are handled through the resort's surf partner, Atoll Travels, and anyone can watch the sets from Raalhu Bar.
Jet skiing, paddleboarding and other water sports run from the island, with motorised sports charged at the resort. Beach volleyball, tennis and a fitness centre cover the days on dry land.
Private dolphin-watching trips to find spinner dolphins in North Malé Atoll, a cultural visit to nearby Huraa island, sunset fishing with local crew and big game fishing. A guided Malé trip takes in the National Museum and the Friday Mosque, and Dine Under the Stars sets up a private dinner on the beach.
Run by Mandara, the Balinese-tradition spa operator, with Balinese massage and a full menu of body treatments. The main pool sits close by for an afternoon of doing very little after a treatment.
Getting There
Speedboat Transfer
20–25 minutes from Malé International Airport

The resort's speedboat crosses from Malé International Airport to Kanuhuraa island in 20–25 minutes, so you're on the island soon after clearing customs. There's no seaplane connection to wait for, and no daylight-only departure window to plan your flights around.

Pasta Point is the left-hand reef break off the tip of the island, directly in front of Raalhu Bar. In peak season the swells run from 4 to 8 feet. Any guest can watch it from Raalhu Bar's terrace.
Not as part of a standard room booking. All surf bookings at Cinnamon Dhonveli are handled by the resort's surf partner, Atoll Travels, as a separate surf package. Tell us if you want to surf and we'll get it quoted for your dates.
Yes, children are welcome, and the island has the Lil' Pirates Bay playground and a children's pool. The Beach Bungalows and Duplex Garden Bungalows sleep two adults and two children. The overwater categories are different: the resort lists Water Bungalows and Over Water Suites for adults plus one infant only, so children aged 2 and over can't stay in them. Tell us your children's ages and we'll confirm the right room before you book.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner at the buffet restaurant assigned to your room category — Koimala for the beach and garden rooms. Drinks aren't part of a meal plan like this, and speciality restaurants such as Tex Mex are charged separately. Message us and we'll confirm which restaurant each night of your stay uses.
Yes. The buffets carry vegetarian dishes, and Dalchini is the resort's Indian restaurant, with an à la carte menu of regional dishes and tandoor cooking for lunch and dinner. Whether Dalchini is covered depends on your room and meal plan, so ask us and we'll confirm before you book.
Good, and close to shore. You can snorkel straight from the main bay without booking a boat, and guests regularly report reef sharks, rays and plenty of reef fish within a few metres of the beach.
Yes, snorkeling gear is included in your package for the whole stay.
