The reef edge sits about 20 metres off the jetty, so the good snorkeling starts before you've finished swimming out. Blacktip and whitetip reef sharks, hawksbill and green turtles and eagle rays are all regular sightings — no boat, no excursion fee, no waiting for a scheduled trip.

Thai at Suan Bua with sand under your feet, Italian at La Brezza over the pool, Middle Eastern under the canvas of Al Khaimah, rotating buffets at Oceans, and three bars including an overwater one built for sunset. On an island you can walk around in twenty minutes, that's a different dinner every night without a boat transfer.

Centara's own Thai wellness brand runs the spa here — nine treatment rooms facing the ocean, with couples' rooms, traditional Thai massage and Ayurvedic-influenced therapies. The soundtrack is the water rather than a playlist.

Speedboats run regardless of daylight, unlike seaplanes — so a late-night arrival into Malé still ends with you on the island that night instead of in an airport hotel. It also means no second transfer cost eating into the honeymoon budget.
